KS2 Teacher – NE28 – 1 Year Fixed-Term

AK Teaching are actively recruiting a highly experienced KS2 Teacher to hit the ground running in one of our partnership schools in Wallsend, working within their Year 6 class. The purpose of this role is to provide the highest standard of education to learners with a range of abilities, while creating a fun and inclusive environment at all times. The ideal candidate will be highly experienced across KS2 and comfortable dealing with challenging behaviours as well as supporting learners with additional needs. The successful candidate will understand the importance of SATS preparation and will have a proven track record of this.

This is a full time opportunity on a 1 year, fixed-term basis.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Carry out the duties of a school teacher as defined in the current National Conditions of Service Document.
  • Be responsible to the Headteacher for the education, welfare and development of groups of children.
  • Plan and deliver, with regard for the school’s aims, own policies and schemes of work, the teaching programme for all children within the class.
  • Provide clear structures for lessons and for sequences of lessons, which maintain pace, motivation and challenge demonstrating a commitment to high achievement for all.
  • Identify needs of individuals and groups within the class making effective use of assessment information on pupils’ attainment and progress and in planning future lessons.
  • Ensure effective teaching of whole classes, groups and individuals, establishing high expectations of behaviour and attainment, so that teaching objectives are met.
  • Monitor and intervene when teaching to ensure sound learning and good behaviour and maintain a safe environment in which pupils feel confident.
  • Use a variety of teaching and learning styles to keep all pupils engaged and to give every child the opportunity to reach their potential.
  • Promote students self-confidence and learner independence.
  • Create and manage a caring, supportive, purposeful and stimulating environment which is conducive to children’s learning.
  • Be familiar with the Code of Practice and identification, assessment and support of pupils with SEN.
  • Evaluate your own teaching critically to improve effectiveness.
  • Mark and monitor work and homework, providing constructive feedback and setting targets for future progress.
  • Set regular, ambitious yet achievable targets for the children, building on prior attainment.
  • Provide reports on individual progress to the Headteacher and parents as required.
  • Liaise with parents in one-to-one meetings and bi-annual Parent Evenings.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with professional colleagues and parents and set a good example through presentation and personal and professional conduct.
  • Participate as required in meetings with professional colleagues and parents in respect of the duties and responsibilities of the post.
  • Participate in staff meetings as required.
  • Ensure that school policies are reflected in daily practise.
  • Participate in the school’s arrangements for appraisal and other professional development activities.
  • Safeguard the health and safety of all children.
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school.

Candidate Requirements

  • An ability to build good working relationships with both pupils and adults.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Ability to manage groups of pupils and deal with challenging behaviour.
  • Experience in KS2.
  • A proven track record of supporting learners with SATS preparation.
  • Patience, resilience and a sense of humour.
  • A valid DBS (Can apply if needed – full support will be provided).
  • Eligibility to work in the UK (Two references, including your current or most recent employer).
