Position: Special Educational Needs Support Assistant

Working Hours: Between 8:30am – 4:00pm, Monday to Friday
Location: South Yorkshire
Contract Type: Full-Time, Term-Time Only

About Us:

AK Teaching is seeking a dynamic and resilient individual to join our team as a SEN Support Assistant. This role is based in a Special Educational Needs (SEN) School in the South Yorkshire area, focusing on supporting learners with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and challenging behaviours.

Role Overview:

As a Special Educational Needs Support Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting students with additional needs. You will work closely with teachers, parents, and other professionals to ensure that each student has the opportunity to reach their full potential. This position is perfect for individuals who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of young learners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with special educational needs.
  • Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and other learning programs.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Help with classroom activities, ensuring all students can participate fully.
  • Monitor and report on student progress and behavior.
  • Support the classroom teacher in managing student behaviour and promoting positive social interactions.
  • Assist with any personal care needs of students, if required.
  • Collaborate with the school’s staff to ensure a supportive and nurturing educational experience for all students.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Previous experience working with children, particularly with special educational needs is an advantage
  • Have the ability to apply the positive and motivational aspects of previous experience to support students with challenging behaviours
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to support students with diverse needs
  • Positive and energetic personality, capable of inspiring and engaging students
  • Resilient and adaptable to challenging situations
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, fostering trust and cooperation
  • Empathy and understanding of the unique needs of learners with SEMH challenges

Requirements:

  • A full DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check on the update service is required. If you do not currently hold a DBS, we can apply for one on your behalf.
