Special Needs Teaching Assistant

AK Teaching is excited to announce an opportunity for a dedicated Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SEND TA) to join our team at a reputable school in Hexham. This role provides a rewarding chance to make a positive impact on the lives of students with special educational needs.

Key Requirements:

  • Enhanced DBS on the update service: All applicants must have an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check on the update service, or be willing to apply for one through AK Teaching.

  • Level 2/3 supporting teaching and learning or childcare qualification: Candidates with a relevant qualification are encouraged to apply. This could include a Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in supporting teaching and learning or childcare.

  • Prior experience in an SEND setting: The ideal candidate should have practical experience working in a Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) setting. Familiarity with supporting a range of needs is highly desirable.


  • Provide one-to-one or small group support to students with special educational needs.
  • Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and support strategies.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to create an inclusive learning environment.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Contribute to the overall pastoral care and well-being of students.

Working Hours:

  • Monday to Friday (no weekends)
  • Standard school hours
