AK Teaching are looking to recruit a team of trusted Cover Supervisors to work with our partner schools in the Northumberland area. We are looking for candidates who are experienced in working with young people and have a desire to help them progress in their education.
A good Cover Supervisor can come from a variety of backgrounds including graduates, sports coaches, scout leaders or even a police or military background. Confidence, professionalism and a willingness to help are the key factors for success in the role.
Schools in the Northumberland area use Cover Supervisors on a daily basis, therefore demand for this role is high and successful candidates will get the opportunity to experience working with students in a variety of schools in the area.
The role involves supporting schools by leading classes of students aged between 11 and 16 during teacher absences. Work will be provided for the children to complete, and the Cover Supervisor has to share and explain this work and also make sure a calm learning environment is maintained at all times.
The role of a Cover Supervisor is ideal for those who are considering a career in teaching, as you get the opportunity to develop your classroom presence, without the added workload of planning or marking work.
You will be expected to support in a variety of subject areas, as and when the schools require but you will not be expected to be an expert in any subject area, as a willingness to support learners and help where you can is much more important.
The ideal candidates for Cover Supervisor roles will demonstrate excellent communication skills as well as:
• A patient and caring temperament.
• The flexibility and confidence to support in a number of subject areas.
• Excellent timekeeping to be available to support schools when they need it.
• Commitment to support the learning of all students in your care.
• The professionalism to know how to correct any negative behaviours without losing your temper and how to speak to you people aged 11-16.
• An ability to drive would be a real advantage in reaching schools but may not be a deciding factor.
All candidates will be required to either possess or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS Certificate (support can be provided) and provide permission for AK Teaching to check for updates service registration.
